In doing some research for some video promotions for Rocking Body Raw Foods, my next book,  I was perusing the CDC website for statistics on weight and obesity,  I came across the BMI calculator widget they offer to health professionals for use on our websites.  I thought perhaps it might be useful for my readers, so I tested it out. Body Mass Index is not truly calculable via an online widget because it cannot take into account how much of your weight is fat and how much is muscle.  I thought it might be close enough to put people on the right track.  WRONG.  It takes the BMI generated and labels the user underweight, normal, overweight, or obese.  According to their calculator I am underweight at 5′7.5″ and 115 pounds.  Now I admit I am on the slim side, but underweight?  I have six pack abs, kickin’ thighs and feel like I’m in the best shape of my life.  So, what does it take to come in as “normal” by CDC standards.  Turns out I would have to weight in between 130 and 160 pounds to meet their guidelines for “normal”.  I never hit 160 even when I was pregnant and looked like a houseboat.  If the CDC thinks 160 is normal for me, what the heck would I have to weigh to show up in their statistics as “overweight”? 180 pounds!  Unholy COW.  These are the people who are keeping track of the weight of the Nation?  Yikes.

Clearly this is another example that by the time our government counts you as a statistic in the country’s weight epidemic, it is too MUCH, too late. The makers of processed foods speak louder to our representatives than any concern they may have for your health. Empower yourself to make EASY changes now.  Get processed foods out of your diet NOW and you will be doing two things;
•    improving your own health immensely and
•    taking money from the coffers of big food companies so they have less to bribe our government officials with.
